Our Project

Elenydd Naturiol is our community-based, collaborative partnership between landowners, residents, Natural Resources Wales  and the Hafod Estate to support the resilience and sustainability of life in the Elenydd area of the Cambrian Uplands and Ystwyth Valley.

It is here in Wales’ last wilderness, the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, that the project celebrates the community heritage of the valley’s farming and mining past.  It brings together, properly for the first time, the community in order to engage and promote sustainable farming practices, make the often stark mining landscape more attractive to residents and visitors with agri-environmental improvements, better access to heritage and learning opportunities, more sustainable use of resources and access to volunteering in one of Europe’s finest examples of a “Picturesque Landscape”.

We appreciate the intrinsic value of our natural assets and want to preserve and protect them along with our way of life in our Welsh language community to the benefit of current and future generations.

The project supports various community groups’ joint-approach to tackle the challenges in the local area including the on-going effects of climate change and landscape degeneration. It provides new opportunities for sustainable visits with improved forest walks and hill paths. The scheme has provided off-road parking facilities for users of the local village hall and better sustainable approaches to managing our distinctive upland area.
