Ysgoldy Goch

Our village hall is a Grade II listed building, which was built as the Church Sunday School hall in 1891, by Mrs. Sarah Waddingham who also paid for the restoration of Eglwys Newydd Church four years earlier.

It is listed by Cadw as a “well-detailed late C19 building” in the free style that followed the Gothic Revival, associated with the Hafod estate. The building is constructed of rubble stone with red brick dressings with a red tiled deep-eaved roof and a wooden bell tower.

Ysgoldy Goch is an historic and valued community hall which is well supported by the community whose many organisations use it. It is an important meeting place and is supported by  Ysgoldy Goch Social and Fundraising Group who organise regular events such as BBQs, coffee mornings, cawl evenings, and table top sales.

It is also used by the Eglwys Newydd Hafod Church for services, bring and share lunches, a supper venue for artists and guests who take part in concerts at the church and community council meetings as well as Mothers Union events. The Hafod Estate uses it for exhibitions, teas for walkers and artist in residence scheme from the Royal Drawing School as it makes an ideal studio.

Ysgoldy Goch has been upgraded with a new kitchen and community organisations are welcome to book the hall to hold events and activities.  It now boasts a new sustainable travel hub with cycle rack for safer parking and overflow support for Church events, thanks to funding from the Elenydd Naturiol project.
